With a clear focus on planning and design, and not decoration, the team of We Design Studio has created a timeless home for the clients from a bare-shell apartment. With complete freedom to pick the apt material palette for the right look, it is deceptively simple and austere. Envisioned as a cocoon of comfort and ubiquitous charm, the home is a combination of white Banswara marble and teak wood furniture.
Nupur and Saahil approach each project with an open mind and place a lot of emphasis on the planning of each space. True to their ethos, in this home, too, the planning is optimised to ensure there is zero wastage of space. Every room is user-friendly and generously proportioned.
The foyer is accessed through a private lift lobby and a large pivoted teak wood door. A fluted teak wood panel wall serves as a highlight for the foyer. The living, dining, and kitchen lie on one side of the entrance foyer, while the private spaces that comprise four bedrooms is to the other side. The living room opens out onto a spacious 500-square-foot balcony peppered with outdoor seating, dining and plants.
The floor is finished in a local white Banswara marble and the bathrooms are finished in a local grey slate tile. While all windows are finished in black aluminium, the doors are made of recycled Burma teak stained in a natural linseed oil polish and the furniture is made of teak wood. Colourful art, accessories and area rugs bring in pops of colour. The sensual wood against the austere white walls strikes a harmonious balance.
The white of the floor, walls and ceilings combined with the brown of the furniture make for a timeless, warm and sensual material palette. Silently compelling in parts and boldly evocative in others, this home amalgamates together distinct vignettes using diverse elements—rendering each space a personal touch while maintaining a strong visual continuity.
This is a home with an uninterrupted view of the skyline and the sea beyond. We Design Studio has not only included it into the design language, they have managed to underscore the timeless beauty and freshness through their meticulous planning. A true ode to the view -- both inside and outside.
