Amato Architecture as Architects

We’re always happy when we can give our clients a lift. That’s just what we did for this Rockridge 2-1 Craftsman bungalow when we raised the roof to create a bright and airy second-story addition filled with fun and colorful touches.

The home’s original, dark, cramped attic was giving no one much joy. So we relocated the awkward back staircase and added a gabled roof to create vaulted ceilings punctuated with skylights. The bright, spacious second story has room enough for the laundry room, (tucked below the original roofline and window), three bedrooms and two baths, one of whose whimsical details include colorful fish-scale tiles; the luxurious primary bathroom enjoys a rain head shower tucked directly into a skylight! A new balcony off the primary bedroom completes the seamless transition from inside to out.

Downstairs, we removed a bedroom to create a larger family room adjacent to the kitchen and backyard And, because we’re always thinking of details, we squared the oddly notched foundation and walls, adding a kitchen island, beverage station and pantry for our homeowner-chef. Hats off to the chef, and to this Rockridge home with its welcoming new addition!
