A stately Craftsman home in Berkeley was reconfigured to create an expansive new kitchen, reading nook, and office in place of the original kitchen, maid’s room and laundry. New windows, doors and seating areas adjacent to the outdoor areas connect the spaces. Craftsman-style woodwork arranged in a symmetrical alignment ensure a unified period feel.
The large island with solid walnut countertop takes center stage as the heart of the home, providing the owners with a communal place for family and friends to gather. A copper niche behind the stove and copper accents in the tile lend additional warmth and character to the kitchen.
