Nestled in the vibrant heart of Jumeirah, Dubai, the renovation project breathes new life into 11 rooms spanning across 590 square metres and 2 floors. Home to young entrepreneurs with a global footprint, Cadiz is designed as a place for them to slow down in their busy lives. It brings together luxury and comfort to create a space filled with warmth, nature and a feeling of ‘forever summer’.
Strategic Spatial Planning
The design process began with a meticulous approach to the spatial reconfiguration to combine two adjacent villas into an open layout. Divided into distinct zones such as family living, formal dining, and kitchen areas, each space transitions seamlessly into the next, fostering a harmonious flow throughout the home. The transformation extended beyond mere aesthetics, with both the kitchen and bathrooms undergoing a complete overhaul to modernize their finishes and layouts, thereby enhancing their functionality and visual appeal.
With the living spaces at the heart of the home, the design creates an airy, spacious atmosphere that balances form and function. Guided by the brief to create open spaces to host family and friends, the home features multiple seating options with a generous dining table. A thoughtfully chosen light color palette fills the space with a sense of luminosity complemented by natural light during the day. The bedrooms are designed for understated sophistication, while the children's rooms are vibrant and playful reflecting a balance of individuality and unity within the home's design.
The Spirit of Summer
Cadiz draws inspiration from the warmth of Mediterranean landscapes and the charm of bohemian aesthetics and is designed to radiate tranquillity and warmth. With cues from the sunny landscapes and lush greenery, the design creates a sense of warmth and freshness. The design focuses on simplicity, natural elements and comfort, combined with a contemporary yet ‘slow living’ aesthetic – serving as a reminder to unwind and disconnect from the urban life’s hustle.
The home is filled with carefully curated bespoke and signature pieces that feel like an integral part of the design rather than additional scattered objects. Terracotta textured accents, woven into mosaic tiles and accessories, harmonize with natural wooden finishes and verdant greenery, infusing the home with a fresh, summery ambiance and inviting warmth.
Elevating Design with Texture and Tone
The house is meticulously crafted to age gracefully, boasting a material palette rich in natural finishes such as stone and wood. Rustic, earthy tones permeate the space, complemented by textured fabrics, ceramics, rattan furniture, and sheer linens. These elements are juxtaposed against whitewashed walls, concrete, brick, terracotta tiles, and stones, creating a captivating interplay of textures and hues. Imperfect finishes such as rustic concrete cladding and textured plaster add depth and tactile character to the space, while micro cement serves as a versatile canvas for walls, floors, and ceilings.
Micro cement-finished walls and floor create a sense of cohesion, offering a seamless backdrop for the design elements. The pièce de résistance is undoubtedly the bar counter, adorned with cement tiles and a river-washed Travertine countertop. Serving as the focal point within the living spaces, the bar exudes prominence and elegance, drawing attention to its artisanal construction and exquisite materials.
