The Casa Canal, located in Quebrada Onda, Frutillar, in the Los Lagos Region, is set in a rural environment characterized by its rainy climate and open landscapes that invite contemplation. This project, covering 255 square meters of built space, combines functionality, sustainability, and a profound connection with the natural surroundings. The house is organized into two main volumes, separated by a corridor that serves as a transitional axis between the social and private areas.

One volume houses the living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry room, and main entrance, creating an open and fluid space designed to foster interaction and family life. The other volume contains the bedrooms, a family room, and bathrooms, ensuring privacy and comfort for its residents. A key aspect of the design is the connection between interior and exterior spaces. The covered patio, which includes a terrace and barbecue area, extends the habitable space toward the surrounding landscape, providing a versatile area for daily use and social gatherings.

The parking area, strategically located behind the corridor, ensures functional and discreet access. The house’s roof, with a total area of 300 square meters, consists of two large sloping planes that converge into a central gutter. This efficient design collects rainwater from the entire built surface, which is directed to a large 10,000-liter tank located above the parking area, intended for domestic use. The material design of the house seeks a balance between austerity and warmth.

Using noble and weather-resistant materials, the structure adapts to its surroundings, embracing the terrain and generating a protected perimeter. This layout creates a central space that acts as a transitional zone, harmoniously integrating the external and internal conditions. The Casa Canal is a refuge that engages with its environment, offering a balance of functionality, sustainability, and livability.
