The architect Manuela Tognoli oversaw the renovation of an apartment in Rome in the Città Giardino area, the heart of the Monte Sacro district, for a family of three people. The 110 m2 house  is located inside a 70s building surrounded by greenery and typical 1920s villas of the area. Characteristic of the house is the totally open view of the greenery and the nearby Aniene river from its garden and terrace which surround the perimeter of the views of the bright house, located on the ground floor.

The original plan was a typical layout of the buildings of the 70s, with an entrance and many hallways, very introverted compared to the outside and lacked a clear connection with the external areas of the house. The living room had a small access to the garden while one of the bedrooms led to the terrace, closing the connection of the living area with the outside.

The inent of the project was therefore to create a flow of light and energy between the house and the garden, connecting the living room with the two exits to the outside, increasing the brightness of the house, bringing "the green of the outside inside the house".
The choice of colors in fact follows the colors of the earth, in a succession in the rooms of the house.

To be able to proceed with this idea, the layout of the house was completely transformed: a large living room was created, onto which the open kitchen overlooks, with access to the garden, while the connection with the terrace is marked by a double wall of iron and glass arches that create a perspective towards the outside arriving in the green studio, a filter area between the outside and the inside.

The characteristic inclined wall of the original layout of the hall has been emphasized by creating a new mirrored inclined wall. The living room thus becomes a large bow window towards the outside.
 The materials chosen are classic but used in a contemporary key, used to distinguish specific areas: in the living room and bedrooms we find a Hungarian herringbone oak parquet, in the study area contained by the curved windows a terrazzo tiles with inserts in shades of green was chosen , while in the kitchen area an earth-coloured terrazzo.

One of the owners' requests was to have a large living room, but at the same time there was the need to create a small entrance area, which could serve both as a coat and as a filter to have greater privacy in the house. 
Thanks to this request, the architect designed a containing wall in oak and Vienna straw which, starting from the kitchen, curves towards the entrance, creating a service area that can be used from the entrance.
The kitchen is located in an area connected but at the same time separated from the living room thanks to its color which reflects earth tones, and the differentiation of the terrazzo flooring. 
Both the kitchen and the curved furniture were designed by the architect and made by craftsmen.

The existing fireplace was redesigned as a pure white vertical element with rounded corners. On the same wall there is a bookcase and a mirrored storage wardrobe with the same lines as the fireplace.

Passing from the living room in the first area between the iron and glass walls, you enter the master bedroom with adjoining bathroom on the left, and the second bedroom on the right, with guest bathroom and service bedroom.

The double bedroom is characterized by a dreamy wallpaper by Vito Nesta in shades of green and blue. The en-suite bathroom features blue terrazzo flooring and coverings and paint in the same tones.
The son's room is located in the position of the former kitchen, overlooking the garden, and adjacent to it has a second small service room and the guest bathroom where we find the terrazzo in a further mixed color, and the earth-colored walls.

The works of photographer Lara Cetti from the Psilocybin series, characterized by a light patina that makes the women portrayed in the works ethereal, integrate perfectly with the house, blending in with the colors of the walls, and giving the rooms a sense of lightness and refinement.
The colorful ceramics we find in the kitchen are handmade by designer Arianna De Luca.
