Restoration in Mérida’s Historic Center

This project involved the transformation of a former kindergarten in the heart of Mérida’s historic center into a private colonial-style residence. Our main goal was to recover and celebrate the building’s original character, carefully restoring its masonry walls and colonial proportions.

A prominent stone masonry wall now defines the boundary between the social and private areas of the house, creating a clear yet harmonious spatial organization. This wall also acts as a vestibule, guiding circulation and framing the entrances to the bedrooms.

To enhance natural light and ventilation, we introduced a series of small interior patios throughout the house. These green voids not only bring light and air into the core of the building but also reinforce the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, a key element in traditional Yucatecan architecture.
