Casa Toto

It's an anodyne plot, from an anodyne urbanization of "Pepitos" (the name Toto uses to call the chalets which suddenly invaded our childhood landscape), on the city outskirts, Julia and Toto want a place to live with their children. There is a practically horizontal landscape, without remarkable views (if we raise the view a little we can see the southeast arid mountains of Alicante).

The irregular shape of the plot is maybe the most remarkable aspect of the project. Toto wants a design studio beside the house. The house must be a focal point where he can welcome his clients and show them his creations. The house represents an alternative to the clonal residential model that is so prominent on our coast. This space must show a new way of living, enjoying the kindness of our climate (Alicante has a average annual temperature of almost 19ºC) and it must comply with urban regulations; this facilitates the clonal model proliferation.

The house adapts to the plot shape.
The house is formed by the plot limit.
The house is its own plot.

The plot area is 1200m2.

A linking of exterior and interior spaces are outlined by unfolding its own walls which draw the boundaries of the property... a series of patios which organize the different living spaces... the house is an inhabited garden. A house of multiple pathways, is a house to get lost in... A house must develop with the time... it's a changing laboratory, a place of continuous experimentation... a place for exhibitions and parties... A house capable of evolving; which grows up with their habitants in the way in which they know.

The naked concrete walls await the vegetal invasion... vegetal gardens of green vegetables and a citric garden supply the kitchen... Its cooked between walls, with the open-air... The house is lush garden of intertwining walls... walls which create tanks which keep the rain water for the watering, the pool is another flood patio, formed by this walls,... patios which hug... patios which raise and finish defining a frame.. looking to receive the first sunbeams to start the day with energy .
