The apartment is located in a residential area of Milan, in the lush neighborhood of Maggiolina. The renovation has partially preserved the original internal layout of the rooms, but has completely transformed the style. The project, commissioned by a young professional and full-time father, combines the need for versatile spaces with a passion for music, where colors act as a common thread that connects the various areas.
The apartment opens onto an entrance designed as a transitional space from which all other areas are accessed to, while emphasizing the view of the living area. The red wardrobe, situated to the right of the entrance door, is the focal point of the apartment, leading both to the living room/kitchen area via a bridge unit and to the master bedroom through a secret door. Regarding the finishes, the two primary colors that stand out are red and green, presented in various shades on the coverings and furnishings. Another major protagonist is natural oak wood, used both for the knotty parquet that runs throughout the apartment, except for the bathrooms, and for multiple pieces of furniture.
Key elements of the living area include the full-height oak and pink lacquered timber kitchen and, opposite, the TV wall in the relaxation area, featuring a metal bookshelf and many vinyl displays, the result of a research carried out with the enthusiastic collaboration of the client. The night area is organized with the master bedroom, accessed through an additional transitional space which recalls the pink tones of the kitchen, and the children's room, also used as a study, where shades of teal green and a cheerful touch of yellow can be found. Both bathrooms maintain their original location: one very large and bright, with terrazzo-effect flooring, green tiles behind the vanity unit and white tiles with contrasting green grout in the shower area; the other one in clay tones, with its three-dimensional tiles, a revisited version of London subway tiles.
The lamps highlight the character of each room. In the living room, a large Luceplan suspension lamp illuminates the table, while the IC Lights wall lamp by Flos has been chosen to specifically light the record player cabinet near the dining area. A LED sign with the words 'Happy House' fully embodies the spirit of the apartment, connecting the dining and the conversation area. For both the master bedroom and the children's room, softer and more relaxing lighting was chosen, favoring wall or floor lamps. Overall, the apartment fully reflects the energy of the family living there, and the great enthusiasm shown in the different design phases, thanks also to the client's trusting participation.
