“There is no place without its genius” Servio
This phrase may well contribute one more detail to the description of this house that rises from the surrounding land, becoming a pure, compact, and free-standing volume.
The mono-material, solid expression, with few openings, and its slenderness, make it resemble a steep construction, with steep slopes, a castle perhaps inhabited by a guardian spirit.
This is a house for a woman and her partner, who owns a house directly on the water on the outskirts of the city. On a small plot of land, the program unfolds through a vertical sequence of functions connected by a staircase embedded in a dividing wall. This staircase, along with the restrooms, forms the backbone of the house, defining subordinate and subservient spaces.
A large, open-plan ground floor, both single and double height, serves as the entrance, containing a parking area, a guest bedroom, and restrooms. The courtyard, of limited dimensions but in keeping with the double height of the ground floor, achieves a proportion and spatiality that is echoed in the relationship between the living and dining rooms and the study, which overlooks the balcony. In this way, a sequence of similar spaces accompanies the user throughout the entire journey.
On the first level is the master bedroom. From this intimate and controlled location, located between the street and the double-height private patio, a wide variety of views and cross-ventilation are achieved.
The grand piano is located on the second level and features a series of windows with deliberate cutouts that frame the sky, the surrounding vegetation, and the planned interior landscape.
The house is topped by a terrace that offers different uses. A semi-covered space houses a pool and a solarium with a suspended garden that completes the fifth facade of the house.
