Located on the coast of Espírito Santo, Brazil, this beachfront apartment underwent a comprehensive renovation that reimagined its spatial configuration and aesthetic language. The design draws influence from boutique coastal inns and Brazilian vacation homes, blending informality with sophistication through a palette of natural materials such as polished concrete, encaustic cement tiles, sisal, and timber.
A defining gesture of the project is the integration of the main social areas—balcony, living room, dining area, and kitchen—into a unified open-plan space. Structural columns, exposed after demolition, were clad in mirrors to dissolve visual barriers and reflect the sea views, which now permeate the entire living area. An internal pergola was introduced to the balcony ceiling, reinforcing the atmosphere of a beachside retreat.
Spatial reprogramming prioritized openness and fluid transitions. A portion of the former service area was converted into two powder rooms to support the expanded social core. The integration of fixed furnishings and layout composition delineates functional zones without the need for partitions, enhancing both usability and visual continuity.
The apartment includes five unique suites, each conceived with its own character. Variations in materials and chromatic choices distinguish the rooms: from natural wood tones paired with nautical blues, to bamboo textures against green walls, and bold dado rails in navy and red contrasting with cement-hued surfaces. The master suite synthesizes elements from the others, combining wooden cabinetry, sisal rugs, vibrant furniture accents, cement-toned finishes, and white MDF paneling in a balanced composition.
The living and TV room features a rustic stone wall, anchoring the interior with a nod to traditional coastal construction. This tactile aesthetic extends through to the dining room, spa, and kitchen areas, where sisal rugs, wooden furnishings, and concrete-look porcelain floors continue the visual narrative.
Bathrooms follow a cohesive design strategy with individual highlights. Each en-suite is fitted with distinctive tiles from Lurca, showcasing different patterns from the brand’s collection to introduce variation within a unified material language.
The result is a relaxed yet refined coastal home that balances contextual sensitivity with contemporary living, offering immersive views, curated textures, and a spatial fluidity suited to modern beachfront life.
