Catholic Parish Church Sankt Johann von Capistran

The church of St. John of Capistran in Munich-Bogenhausen is the parish church for the district Parkstadt Bogenhausen, built in the 1950s. The church was planned by Sep Ruf, whose brother Franz had taken over the overall planning of the Parkstadt. Planning began in 1957 and was completed in 1960. The parish center, located in the southeastern corner of the Parkstadt, includes a flat-roofed building with parochial house and kindergarten, a parsonage with library and a freestanding bell tower. All buildings are built of bricks, only the belfry is made of concrete.

A special feature of the church is its layout with two nested circles. The smaller, inner circle comprises the actual church space, the larger forms the outer wall. Both circles touch each other at the entrance to the west. This creates additional space in the eastern part of the church, where the baptistery and the confessionals are located.

Because of its closed, circular shape with the protruding, raised flat roof, the church is popularly called "God's UFO".
