This 1,600 square foot apartment in Chelsea, London is the home of an entrepreneur and art collector. With homes in Frankfurt and Mumbai, the owner was keen to imbue his London home with a sense of place. The flat had been previously stripped of its historic features, but to provide a distinct ‘sense of place’, we introduced elements that acted as a modern interpretation of these lost elements. In opening up the space, the main design element became the tall doors that give this apartment its distinct look. A minimal palette of materials include English oak floors and Italian Basalt fireplaces. The grand proportions of the building have been maintained and exaggerated by the use of full-height doors, and maximised ceiling heights to create an entirely contemporary pied-a-terre. The fabrics are in neutral tones to add contrast to the spectacular Yves Klein perspex coffee table filled with gold leaf. The flooring is a light Oak with bespoke silk rugs to define areas.
