CCL Architects & Planners as Architects

The old abandoned building that was originally the military Welfare Station was designed by a Militaryofficer architect studying at the Department of Architecture of the University of Pennsylvania. Its original appearance was deeply influenced by the master architect Louis Kahn, and it has a slightly post-war modernist architectural style. The volume of the building is outlined by geometric lines, and the minimalist style is outlined. The large façade with arched openings and curved balconies enhances the self-clarity of the building. With the use of storage, the ventilation function is only left at the bottom of the first floor. The façade has a curved balcony on the left side and a round window on the right side.

In response to the need for additional classes in kindergartens, the client changed the abandoned welfare station into kindergarten classrooms and community libraries. A kindergarten is set up on the first floor, and the community library is used on the second floor, so that the building has two different uses. Adjust the position of the staircase in the design, eliminate the existing indoor RC staircase, and set up a new steel staircase in the external space of the front elevation to distinguish between different ethnic groups and moving lines, while maintaining the safety of teachers and students in the kindergarten.

The design uses the shape of the existing building arches and circle windows to create designs. The building facade has many new round arches and windows of different scales, and the arc language is further embedded in the wind and rain corridors, and it is projected on new and old kindergartens. On the AC pavement at the entrance of the district, it serves as a reminder of the series of moving lines around the base and traffic safety. The overall design and the existing buildings still maintain a contextual relationship, making it a complete preschool education field, while also enhancing community identity and collective memory. The originally unopened facade, in response to the large circular arch at the entrance of the original design, opened a lot of circular holes in the facade, like a cheese-like window, from time to time the children laughed out of joy in the class.

The 30-meter-long white metal corridor shed connects the new and old kindergarten areas. The roof of the shed withdraws a lot of semicircles at the edge due to the location of the tree. The roof also has many large and small colored round holes and white pillars. Scattered next to the round hole, the 30-meter-long white roof was gently propped up. The size and color circular pattern of the graffiti on the ground of the new and old kindergartens became the index for the children to go to class and play, leading the children to safe access classroom. When the light is scattered on the floor through the roof stained glass, the color and shadow of the false and real colors and the paint painting add to the happiness of the children.

"You become blue, I become yellow ..." When the light and shadow spilled colorful bubbles, the young children were guided to further explore the space environment and become a possibility of happiness.
