“With cities, it is as with dreams: everything imaginable can be dreamed, but even the most unexpected dream is a rebus that conceals a desire or, its reverse, a fear. “This is the understanding of the " cities " in the book " Invisible Cities" by the Italian writer Italo Calvino.
C&C DESIGN CO.,LTD. ‘s pavilion use "city" as the theme in 2016 Guangzhou Design Week. This is following the exhibition installation "haze" in 2015, also derived from the thinking of the contemporary cities.
When people walk into here can not see the overview of space, visual and not go through, people can experience to different spatial perspective when they move .The walls were created into diagonal modeling, non-horizontal or non-vertical from different directions, in a sense, each skew is one of the indefinite divisions between "open" and "closed". This gives the ambiguity and complexity of space, and implies this is an artificial city like forest, a "fictional city."
The approach of modern civilization, city replaces the forest as the carrier of human desires,we built one after another "city" ,the more pessimistic view is that we are building a "artificial and natural" future while building the city...The installation restores some animals through the hand shadow, use the "emergence" and "disappearance" of the projection to caused the audience's reflection. This seems to question our judgment of the real world.
On the third day of the exhibition, the audiences use the chalk began to graffiti around in the "city" which were provided by designers. With the increasing number of participants, this "city" has become a paradise for children, they add more childlike and human nature for this cold and elegant "concrete jungle".
