Claro Smart Center

Claro Smart Center

TSM Asociados SRL as Architects

The Claro Smart Center dome is a commercial venue built for a multinational telecommunications company named Claro. It is located inside an important Shopping Mall based in Lima, Peru. TSM Asociados SRL was elected to design the interior of this space. The main function of this premise is to sell tablets and smartphones, as well as provide information about the services and products.

This project had a certain level of complexity due to a preexisting geodesic dome which was at the site before the interior design began. The main challenge was to create an internal layer that could be supported by itself, without interacting with the external skin, enabling mechanical equipment such as fire safety and cooling system to be installed. As a solution, a parallel steel frame was built to support the interior loads and to hide all the mechanical connections. The morphology of the interior was inspired from the shape of the radio waves, which fluctuate in constant frequency between peaks creating an organic line. This organic line, with lower and upper peaks, rotates around a fixed axis creating the interior volumetric.

Inside the inner frame, the tectonic application was a circular MDF louvre/skin which represents the frequencies of the radio waves in a horizontal plane. Also, the furniture design was conceived by following the pattern of these waves. Furthermore, the distribution of the furniture on the floor plan encourages clients to follow a specific path. The illumination plays an essential role inside this environment; it delimits the suggested path. To be more precise, the LED string lights were attached on the lower part of the curved counters to empathize where to walk through, while the LED spots are on the highest ceiling of the dome.
