The home represent the firm’s latest conceptual design, the Claverack House. The firm exhibits a commitment to traditional design in architecture – creating historically influenced buildings while designing for modern living. The home is inspired by the first project Hendricks Churchill’s creative director, Rafe Churchill, built with his wife and business partner, interior designer Heide Hendricks. The design evolved from a main house, to a barn, to a series of three connected structures. The house is based on a Shaker building at Hancock Shaker Village, while the barn is loosely based on a traditional Dutch barn and then linked by a contemporary glass corridor. The change in architectural styles is key to the story of the building. The glass connector was inspired by the farm buildings throughout the northeast, especially in the Hudson Valley. The project signifies Hendricks Churchill’s slight departure from classical aesthetics by presenting a brief nod to modernism.
