This four-bedroom house has been reimagined with a new intervention to the rear that celebrates the Victorian heritage of the building while bringing light into the heart of this now modern family home. A delicate pitched glass roof mimics the outline of the existing roofline and dissolves into the sky above, creating a stimulating counterpoint to the materiality of the rest of the building.
The extension is designed with environmental performance in mind and heat loss is carefully managed through high-performance glazing and a solar thermal hot water storage system. Reclaimed materials from the site were used to ensure the rest of the structure retains the Victorian aesthetic.
