Departamento K

Departamento K, developed by Taller ADG
in collaboration with Mariana Rivera, is located in Mexico City and consists of a timeless apartment designed for a young family, where spatial quality and material expression define the overall identity of the project.
The proposal seeks to create a warm and sophisticated residential experience in which interior architecture and materials engage in a harmonious dialogue to generate functional, serene, and deeply livable spaces.

The concept is based on the use of wood not only as a surface finish, but as a central design element that acts as a theatrical backdrop, unfolding continuously throughout the entire apartment. Through its enveloping presence, wood provides visual unity and a sense of spatial continuity that connects the different areas of the residence while emphasizing the scale and proportions of the spaces.

Upon entering the main living area, the wood paneling extends across the space and wraps around the double-height ceiling, remaining slightly detached from the vertical planes to create a subtle scenographic effect that enhances the perception of scale and movement. Natural light plays a fundamental role in this composition, highlighting the textures, grain, and tonal variations of the material, generating a dynamic and welcoming atmosphere throughout the day. This same architectural strategy continues into the dining area and family room located on the ground floor, reinforcing a sense of continuity and cohesion. This level also accommodates the guest bedroom and service areas, including the kitchen, pantry, and staff quarters.

In more private spaces, such as the bedrooms, the ceiling height is intentionally reduced and the role of the wood shifts accordingly. Here, the closer and more tactile relationship with the material fosters a warm, intimate, and domestic atmosphere. Wood is used to shape the spaces in a functional and precise manner, integrating storage, surfaces, and architectural details that fluidly adapt to the everyday needs of a growing family. Every element was designed to maintain a sober and timeless language, prioritizing comfort and the sensory experience of its users.

Travertine marble appears as a subtle accent in key architectural elements, introducing contrast without overshadowing the presence of wood. The dialogue between travertine marble and wood establishes a refined balance, where the natural texture and tonal variations of the marble complement the warmth and continuity of the wood, resulting in an environment defined by visual harmony, material richness, and tactile depth. The combination of natural materials, together with a neutral color palette and a carefully curated furniture selection, contributes to creating an elegant and timeless atmosphere that responds to both aesthetic and functional criteria.
