"Exploratorium" is an outdoor research centre in St. St. Cyril and Methodius School in Ravda, Bulgaria. The project offers pupils new outdoor experiences, environmental education, personal and social development, thus developing not only educational but also cognitive and emotional knowledge. The existing four-level amphitheatre is transformed into an outdoor classroom. The heights of the amphitheatre levels are adapted to the pupils ergonomics and the possibility of being used in combination with mobile tables.
The perimeter of the classroom is protected by a metal railing with a wavy shape. The segments of the railing include educational games and installations that enrich the classroom experience, allowing students to learn through hands-on activities. Inspired by the school curriculum, the two-sided games consists of a weather station, an optical game, a biodiversity game, an environmental game, a sound funnel, a planetarium and a periscope.
Students have the opportunity to acquire a responsible and caring attitude towards the environment in the adjacent ecological corner, which includes equipment and furniture for collecting rainwater, plastic, metal, paper, glass. Infographics on a similar theme can be found on the school facade. Preserving the play element, the playground in the adjacent garden is equipped with benches for recreation.
