The new location for the FHNW School of Business and the FHNW School of Computer Science.

Responding to fundamental changes in how universities teach, learn and work, the campus is conceived as more than a place for knowledge transfer. Its spatial concept supports collaboration, project-based learning, focused work, informal exchange and interdisciplinary interaction, translating the principles of the FHNW Strategy Raum 2035 into a physical environment.

Following E2A’s original architectural design, Evolution Design was commissioned by FHNW to review and further develop the interior concept before construction began.

Evolution Design developed a holistic interior and education design concept that strengthens connectivity, transparency and interaction across the campus.

A diverse range of learning environments is connected with co-working areas, coffee points, informal lounges and dedicated focus zones, allowing students to move easily between different modes of learning throughout the day.

At ground level, the Welcome Center, event space and campus restaurant create central meeting points for students, staff and visitors, while strengthening the connection between the university and the wider Basel business community.

An extensively planted, covered co-working and lounge terrace extends learning and campus life outdoors. Integrated power connections support studying and working outside, while carefully positioned shading provides protection from direct sunlight, creating a comfortable outdoor environment throughout much of the year.

Workspaces on the upper levels combine offices with meeting and workshop areas, labs and shared coffee hubs, encouraging collaboration and knowledge exchange across teams and disciplines.

Together, these elements transform the 20,000 m² campus into an open and interconnected ecosystem for learning, working and exchange – providing a spatial model for a more flexible, collaborative and future-oriented university environment.
