When it comes to sublime and provocative spaces within inconspicuous and indistinct buildings, New York City offers the largest selection than any other city that is known. The Fifth Avenue Loft offers yet another example of these small but transcendent and tranquil Lofts that enjoy an exceptional view overlooking the Central Park. The project consisted of redesigning this 1000 sqft, typical one bedroom New York spec apartment into a live and work space.
Our design concept was to soften the barriers within the Loft. We replaced solid walls with translucent glass and linked the rest of the apartment with visual clues. The bedroom is designed as an extension of the living room, but can be separated from it by means of large sliding glass doors.
Walls surrounding the kitchen have been eliminated with the exception of one between the kitchen and the bathroom. A colored transparent glass was introduced on this partition to create a play on the lights.
The kitchen is treated with minimalist approach to heighten the sense of control one has over the loft. White callacatta marble drapes over the stainless steel cabinets outlining the island counter and stretch on to the entire wall forming a continuous backsplash.
Wine bottles are stacked carefully within an amber colored cast resin wine rack, which rises tall above the counter top as if it wants to exert an emphasis on fine dining experience this kitchen is about to deliver.
French limestone panels line up the bathroom. Large shower area defined by clear glass walls is designed for two and fitted with two separate fixtures.
