The Chappelifeld fire station is located at the entrance to the village of Herzogenbuchsee and is situated on the main road. With a modern take on the traditional Bernese hipped roof, the two-storey wooden building sets an architectural accent in its surroundings. The roof draws an elegant line into the wide plain and anchors the building horizontally in the landscape. The placement of the new building in the south-eastern corner of the site allows for a separation of the entry and exit routes for the fire engines.

The design is based on an economical structural design and an efficient, direct organisation of the emergency and service routes. The floor plan includes a vehicle hall with intermediate climate in the north, heated rooms over two floors in the south, the main entrance in the east and a potential extension possibility in the west.

The new building will be constructed in timber frame with solid timber ceilings. An outer skin of vertical larch wood slats and a flush metal peat façade encloses the load-bearing framework of columns, girders and plane supporting structures made of spruce wood.
