The residence was a completely new build that the client had purchased off the plan located in a leafy suburb on the outskirts of Melbourne, Australia approximately 12km from the CBD. Studio Martin were engaged to design the interiors and enhance the spatial experience.
Their brief was to create a soft, calm space with clean lines that offered a sense of sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the every day.
Working within the Architects framework our approach to the project was to create a minimal and paired back interior to emphasise a sense of calm. The intent was to use few materials that were natural and solid to create warmth. This idea was carried throughout the home forming a cohesive journey.
The palette was natural and neutral tones - oiled spotted gum wood, natural light oak engineered timber floorboards, honed Carrara marble slabs and tiles, and matt porcelain tile kitchen and bar benchtops and soft neutral linen curtains.
A main feature of the overall interior was custom designed timber batten wall panelling that was crafted out of solid spotted gum, finished in natural oil.
Overall, the minimalist aesthetic overlayed with the richness of warm and natural materials was the key to creating the clients dream space.
