The residential tower ‘Front’ marks the center of the urban extension ‘Hart van de Waalsprong’ in Nijmegen. ‘Front’ is one of five projects completed by Monadnock in this area. The octagonal tower stands as a visible beacon from the Oversteek – the third bridge over the river Waal – connecting the historic city on the south bank with the new district on the north. The tower complex functions as an orientation point on Oranje Marieplein, the central square of the new district. The façade facing the square consists of a composition of three distinct levels forming a solid corner, which together with the adjacent building blocks, defines the square.
The other street facades integrate seamlessly with the surrounding context, shaping the edges of the shopping and residential streets that lead up to the square. These facades are finished in vivid colors and are richly detailed, allowing them to engage at street level. The complex includes retail spaces in the plinth, apartments in the low-rise section that connect to a collective roof garden, and tower apartments with generous balconies offering views over the river.
