In an exclusive, closed competition among distinguished Greek architectural firms, Google invited A&M Architects to submit a design proposal for their new offices. The objective was to create a design that fully meets the company's high global standards for office spaces, addressing security, facility control, spatial quality, accessibility, inclusivity and wellness amongst others. The new office environment needed to be characterized by originality, a warm and inviting atmosphere while proudly reflecting Greek local elements throughout a high-quality construction.
A&M's proposal met the challenge by creating a dynamic office environment that balanced functional requirements with an inviting, almost homely feel. The design includes a blend of open office spaces, closed meeting rooms with various capacities, collaborative gathering areas, a relaxation and tranquillity zone, a high-tech presentation space, and a dining area that seamlessly extends to an outdoor rooftop. The rooftop serves as a peaceful escape, combining walkable paths with thoughtfully placed greenery.
Throughout the space, a local sense of place is reflected through Greek elements making their appearance in geometries, textured surfaces and graphics blending tradition with Google's fun and modern character. In addition, strong color accents, natural plants, eco-friendly recycled materials, and distinctive acoustic panels were incorporated to enhance both visual and sensory experiences. Unique decorative lighting and playful graphics further emphasized Google’s iconic identity, creating a cohesive aesthetic that reflects the company's vibrant spirit.
Following the design, A&M was entrusted with the implementation of the project after completing the detailed design and obtaining the building permit. Managing numerous challenges simultaneously, A&M's construction team completed the high-demand project in a short timeframe, coordinating and collaborating with numerous external partners under strict confidentiality and security protocols. The result was a flawless construction that beautifully showcased the design of the spaces, leaving visitors in awe.
