Tsao & McKown designed the masterplan of a residential community outside of Taipei. We then invited Annabelle Selldorf, Richard Meier, and Steven Harris to design houses alongside ours, with landscaping by Margie Ruddick. The steep and varied terrain became an opportunity to assign each architect an architectural strategy that negotiates different site conditions. Pedestrian paths, parks, and other shared green spaces unify the community, which shares a clubhouse at its peak. Designed by Tsao & McKown, the clubhouse is embedded in the earth to preserve views and create continuous indoor/outdoor environments. The landscape design includes unique elements such as sunken driveways below pedestrian paths and vegetated green walls that prevent hillside erosion.
