Hana's Apartment

The 90m² apartment, well located in Rio de Janeiro with a view of the Botanical Garden, represents the expression of the soul of architect Hana Lerner, who has her office based there but also takes on projects from São Paulo. With the help of her mother, Linda Lerner, an interior designer, the architect transformed the old gray property into a sunny and joyful home.

From the beginning, Hana knew she wanted to create a cozy, light, and nature-filled atmosphere in all spaces, bringing a “home” feel to the apartment. All rooms have a neutral base, with colorful details and a notable presence of plants to convey a biophilic sense. In addition to the colors, the presence of Brazilian art and design is constant, giving the project soul and personality.

The original layout of the apartment also underwent modifications. Before the renovation, the layout included three bedrooms, but to better entertain friends, Hana decided to open up one of them, turning it into the living room. In the kitchen, the modification included a niche for the refrigerator, improving circulation and allowing for a linear kitchen.

Katia Jendiroba’s landscaping brings lightness and inspiration to all corners of the apartment. With the presence of a plumeria, a palm tree, and a jabuticaba tree, the resident’s passion for nature is evident.

One of the many highlights of the project is the living room, which features an "L" shaped lacquered bookcase designed by Hana. The asymmetrical shape combines open and closed niches, visible from different angles. The exposed brick wall adds texture, providing a sense of comfort.
