In the heart of Jardim Paulista, São Paulo, architect Hana Lerner reimagined a 200m² apartment into a cozy, functional home for a mother and her two teenage children. The design reflects the client’s desire to recreate the warmth and charm of a house, even in an urban setting. Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Jacline was drawn to the greenery of tree canopies visible from the apartment. Her goal was to establish a welcoming atmosphere that felt like home while being practical for everyday living and entertaining friends.
The renovation was comprehensive, including structural changes that added two new suites, transforming the apartment’s layout to accommodate the family’s needs. The kitchen was expanded and seamlessly connected to the living area through a generous opening, while a glass partition floods the laundry room with natural light. The entrance hall was redesigned with a sleek wooden panel concealing the powder room, and the living area now features distinct zones for TV, dining, and even a wine bar.
Natural materials and an earthy palette tie the spaces together. The kitchen’s green tiles, the master suite’s terracotta tones, and the teenagers’ rooms’ light bases with vibrant accents create a harmonious yet dynamic environment. In the living room, wooden flooring and oak panels add warmth, complemented by textured walls and curated artwork from the client’s personal collection.
Special touches include family heirlooms like armchairs and paintings, as well as a prominently placed bicycle in the living room, blending function and personality. Brazilian design pieces and exclusive objects add to the unique character of this project, which perfectly balances aesthetics and practicality for the family’s new chapter.
