A 1500 sqm workshop at the ground floor with 1500 orange bicycles, 1500 sqm offices at the first floor divided by 1500 sqm soundproof walls for a great acoustic comfort.
During our first visit to the 40 year old building, we were captured by the roof structure and we decided to focus our project on this old but modern looking structure. The floor was raised by 35 cm in order to cover any cable and plant, and we enclosed the central rooms within what we called “white boxes”, pure volumes enhanced by an effective lighting. The beating heart of the buildingis the kitchen with three big round tables where employees can relax and share ideas and projects, leading to an open terrace with lemon trees.
The building is A+, respecting the 6 requirements of smart working: 1. Air quality and temperature:the advanced conditioning plants allow a good energy recovery during theair filtration and exchange process. The anti-mite materials facilitate the daily opera-tions of vacuum cleaning and dusting; 2. Lighting: natural and artificial light comes perpendicular to the computer screens. Very low im-pact and self-regulating lamps are installed in each office, also provided with large modern floor-to-ceiling windows with automated shading. In the central common spaces illumination is diffused towards the top and there areledstrip lightsalong the baseboard; 3. Ergonomics and movement:there are 70 liftable desks to fight the risks of sedentary work, that kills more than cigarettes. Everyone can decide at any moment if they prefer to work standing or sitting, or maybe do some healthy stretching exercise; 4. Acoustics:1500 sqm soundproof walls, modular carpeted floors and tree shaped room dividers prevent echoes and reverberations; 5. Visual: soft colors, lots of white, walls withmicroperforated panels, orange sofas in the the en-trance and in the conference room, 15 lemon trees; 6. Location: it took a long time to find the perfect place: close to the city centre, connected by public transportation, quite safe to reach by bike. The new headquarters location, compared to the warehouses near the highway, saved to the employees the purchase of at least 15 second cars.
