In the heart of the Hamptons, Home D+F+2 represents a refined dialogue between American tradition and Italian contemporary design. The project began with a simple, direct request from the clients: a New York couple who wished to transform an existing house into a luminous, sophisticated retreat where light and Italian identity could coexist naturally within the relaxed atmosphere of Southampton.
The brief called for the complete rethinking of a pre-existing wooden structure — maintaining its external presence, as required by the local Preservation Board, while redesigning the interiors in their entirety. This duality defined the essence of the project: a balance between preservation and reinvention, between local heritage and the universal language of modern architecture.

The first challenge lay in navigating the strict local building regulations, which imposed the so-called Hamptons Styleaesthetic for all external façades. This constraint became an opportunity to reinterpret proportion and rhythm within the existing shell, introducing new cuts and alignments that open the building to light and nature. Internally, the project works in section, allowing the perception of multiple levels and spaces at once — a compositional strategy that connects the home vertically and horizontally, enhancing fluidity and visual continuity.

The material palette was deliberately restrained, emphasizing authenticity and tactility. White walls amplify natural light, while oak floors bring warmth and coherence to the sequence of rooms. Bespoke fixtures, doors, and details were handcrafted in Italy, merging precision with craftsmanship and creating a subtle but profound link between two cultures. The careful articulation of thresholds — between inside and outside, light and shadow, private and collective — defines the project’s atmosphere.

Externally, the residence maintains its relationship with the surrounding landscape. The garden flows toward a pool that visually extends into the parkland beyond, eventually merging with the ocean in the distance. This spatial progression — from architecture to nature — embodies the project’s core idea: continuity.
Home D+F+2 ultimately narrates an encounter between two worlds. It translates the rigor of Italian design into the serenity of the Hamptons context, creating an architecture that is both rooted and free, rational and emotional — a contemporary home shaped by light, matter, and the dialogue between cultures.
