Hotel Blu Mare

Hotel Blu Mare is situated in the historic center of Novigrad, placed on the medieval fortification in the immediate vicinity of the Church of St. Pelagius and St. Maximus. Nestled at the meeting point of the urban landscape and a park, it is located near the Lapidarium Museum, a project completed by the same architect in 2003. Both projects emphasize smooth integration with the city's cultural and historical heritage, prioritizing pedestrian sightlines and a strong connection to the surrounding environment.

The architectural design of the hotel is based on four interconnected concrete volumes of varying orientations and heights, with their dimensions derived from the historic city center’s layout. The simple geometry of the volumes ensures a continuous blend into the space, while the park between the building and the city wall is preserved to maintain the site's ambience value.

The façades are designed with a minimalist approach that highlights the geometric purity of the volumes. The city-facing and lateral façades are crafted from patinated exposed concrete, with openings aligned with the façade’s surface. The seafront façade comprises two elements: movable external panels and internal sliding glass walls that enclose the loggias.

The hotel consists of five levels – four above-ground and one underground. The ground floor features the lobby with a reception area, a restaurant, and five rooms, while the basement houses the wellness center, wine cellar, kitchen, and technical facilities. The first and second floors each offer nine rooms, while the third floor, recessed in plan, includes one room and a spacious rooftop terrace. The main entrance is centrally positioned on the ground floor, offering direct access to the restaurant, which cohesively connects with the lobby and is thoughtfully adapted to the site's elevation changes. The basement level also provides access to the promenade and an outdoor terrace by the swimming area, creating a seamless connection between the hotel and both the urban and coastal landscape.
