With its bold, contemporary exterior, the hotel’s design by Aston Design is a nod to the deep cultural roots and artisanal heritage of Cebu, creating an elegant fusion of modern luxury and timeless Filipino tradition.
Celebrating Cebu’s Craftsmanship
Known for its vibrant arts and crafts, Cebu’s rich heritage of weaving and stonework played a central role in the inspiration behind Hotel Sofitel Cebu’s design. Aston Design envisioned spaces that reflect the beauty of local craftsmanship. The intricate weaving patterns traditionally used in baskets and textiles are reinterpreted in the hotel’s interiors, seen in both structural elements and subtle decorative details. The stonework, reminiscent of Cebu’s renowned craftsmanship in stone and masonry, is infused into the design through textured surfaces, creating a harmonious blend of local tradition and modern sophistication.
Inspired by Ancestral Heritage
Aston Design drew further inspiration from the "Bahay na Bato", an ancestral house style prominent during the Philippines’ Spanish colonial period. These homes, known for their sturdy stone foundations and intricate woodwork, have influenced the architectural language of the hotel. The fusion of stone and wood, a hallmark of "Bahay na Bato", is echoed in Sofitel Cebu’s spaces, from the lobby’s grand entrance to the intimate room designs. The blend of classic colonial architecture and modern design creates a unique atmosphere, offering guests a sense of place that is both historical and contemporary.
