House H

Architekten Spiekermann as Architects

A single-family house with an almost closed street front made of anthracite-colored brick. The differently glazed stones, which vary in their play of colors depending on the incidence of light and the point of view of the viewer, create a lively facade and at the same time emphasize the monolithic character of the almost square building with a plot size of 855 square meters.

The double carport made of exposed concrete adjoining the cube folds like a bolt into the clinker brick construction, forms the entrance roofing and ends in the entrance threshold. The color of the attic trays is matched to the exposed concrete and the clinker. The concrete does not consist of prefabricated parts, but was made on site.

The third material of the minimalist building with a living space of 168 square meters can be found in the entrance area. The entrance door and the partition walls including sliding doors to the storage room in the carport and the garden are made of corten steel.

The closed effect of the clinker construction is reversed. The facade opens up to the garden with large, floor-to-ceiling window areas that run profile-free and column-free in the terrace area around the corner. The floor covering of the terrace absorbs the exposed concrete as a material and is reflected in the free-floating terrace roof.

Inside, a seamless floor made of epoxy resin coated and sanded screed in exposed concrete look extends over the open living-dining-kitchen area, the utility room, hallway and office to the guest toilet. A free-floating concrete folding staircase, the vertical stainless steel tube railing of which extends to the lower edge of the upper floor ceiling, leads to the first floor, in which the retreat rooms are located, which are equipped with a designer floor in wood look: two children's rooms and a master bedroom with a direct one access to the dressing room and the bathroom. The hallway is arranged here so that direct access to the carport roof is possible in order to make this area usable as a terrace.

The single-family house, completed in 2014, is a sand-lime brick building with triple-glazed windows. The building has a gas condensing boiler with solar drinking water heating with a heating energy value of 54 kWh per square meter per year and a primary energy requirement of 69 kWh per square meter per year.
