The project presents a renovation of an apartment located in a building in the 'T77' district of Bangkok. The apartment originally presented an empty image due to the overly subdivided rooms. The courtyard is very narrow, the light is hardly received. Except for two rooms adjacent to the main building. The apartment is almost never lit by natural light.
The main objective is to make the most of the natural light in the apartment. We simplify diffusion to achieve a large, open space that maximizes light. The result is a linear continuum of two large areas of different proportions linked to each area having its own specific use. (living room/kitchen-dining/bedroom) and the opening between the two allows for more freedom in relationship.
The only partition that was not demolished was the utility shelf. which creates interest by changing the color inside to stand out It is also a large mirror for checking the order before going out on business.
Structurally, the building is a load-bearing wall that runs parallel to the façade with only a few openings that darken the rest of the apartment. So we play with the light by using the curtains to rhythmize the light in different moments. to improve the flow of light and space.
Natural color wood and the original elements found in the apartment have been restored. At the same time, new materials, such as the plywood-paneled frames, matched the original siding used for the wall openings. Both original and technical materials are painted white. This maximizes natural light and gives the apartment a homogeneous and timeless atmosphere. Natural oak floors provide texture and warmth. It acts as a continuous rug that joins the space together and increases over time to create furniture.
