A Contemporary Architecture Anchored in Its Context
The Campus WeForm project proposes a contemporary architectural language that is deeply rooted in its surrounding environment. At the crossroads of urbanity, heritage, and innovation, the design unfolds around three foundational themes:
1. A Vibrant Urban Interface
The ground floor level of the project is conceived as a lively and dynamic space, interacting directly with the city’s openness and vitality. Designed as a dynamic interface, it fosters social interaction and transparency, seamlessly blurring the lines between interior and exterior. The port context of the site shaped the architectural choices of the project, integrating porous transitions between public, shared, and private realms ensuring a continuous urban flow.
One of the project’s core ambitions is to strengthen its connection to the green heart of the block, opening the campus to the city, the park, and the local community. An elevated walkway activates the garden level, forming a contemporary reinterpretation of a cloister: a shared, elevated garden where students and residents can connect, gather, and unwind, which serves as a true extension of their daily lives.
2. A Dual Reading of Architectural Heritage
The project draws inspiration from local architecture and thoughtfully reinterprets it, establishing a strong dialogue with the ZAC’s urban fabric, identity, and history. It draws from the port’s industrial heritage, and the work of Auguste Perret. Most particularly the modular and rational language of the façade which is reimagined with a contemporary sensibility to create a balanced and functional volumetry.
By weaving influences from post-war reconstruction, industrial architecture, prefabricated housing, and socially driven design, the project creates a cohesive and contextual response. The result is both rooted and forward-looking, balancing authenticity with innovation.
3. A Seamless and Layered Program
The architecture integrates a rich and integrated program that fosters interaction and coexistence:
- A lively ground floor, housing We Form’s sports facilities and student amenities such as co-working spaces, a café, laundry facilities, and a multipurpose room.
- Student housing above, opening towards communal spaces and the city
- A parking, discreetly integrated at ground level beneath the residences, optimizing structural efficiency
- Circulation designed to enhance comfort through natural light and cross-ventilation
