A home for a young family who experience the mountains every day, this project reflects the personality of its inhabitants: on one hand, a sensitivity to design and aesthetic research; on the other, a deep connection to nature and the Alpine landscape.
The aim was to create a space capable of conveying well-being, warmth, and comfort through an essential and authentic design approach. This apartment reinterprets the Danish concept of Hygge, translating it into a contemporary architectural language.
The project is developed around a design vocabulary inspired by Nordic aesthetics, characterized by clean volumes, natural materials, and a light color palette. These elements contribute to creating a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, where every detail is conceived to enhance the quality of everyday living. A subtle “pop” component introduces a dynamic counterpoint to Scandinavian restraint through colorful accents, iconic furnishings, and decorative details that add character and individuality to the spaces.
The apartment occupies the ground floor of a 1930s building and consists of a main volume housing the sleeping area and the kitchen-dining space, together with a separate annex containing the living room and guest quarters. The two parts of the home are connected by a glazed corridor that also serves as the entrance. Outside, a garden overlooking the mountains establishes a visual and spatial dialogue between the two volumes.
The influence of Scandinavian minimalism and functionality is also reflected in the spatial organization. The sleeping area is reduced to its essentials, while the dining and living areas are conceived as convivial and flexible spaces, free from rigid arrangements, where adults and children can comfortably share everyday life.
The resin flooring creates a continuous surface that seamlessly connects the different rooms into a fluid and cohesive environment. Light wood furnishings, designed with simplicity and careful attention to detail, introduce warmth and naturalness, evoking both Scandinavian interiors and the surrounding mountain setting.
Complementing this neutral material palette is a carefully curated color scheme that gives each area of the home its own identity. Color becomes a narrative tool that accompanies the domestic experience, adding energy, personality, and a contemporary touch to the essential Nordic aesthetic.
The project seeks a harmonious balance between simplicity and vitality, functionality and aesthetic identity. The result is a contemporary interior that is warm, informal, and inviting, where design is placed at the service of well-being and convivial living.
