A 17-year-old loft in the Ice House is completely refreshed with a new kitchen, smooth wall surface, lighting, storage and appointments.

The new elements play off the 100-year-old bones of the original building to provide a more functional and beautiful space for living with modern precision and materiality.

Designed for the architect’s family, the project creates a welcoming platform for entertaining and daily living that centers on basic function and lightness. Critical to the scheme was creating a new lighting approach that used direct lighting at cooking and reading areas with more subdued indirect illumination at the wood ceiling and living areas of the loft.

The project uses white cabinetry and countertops to help lighten the space since the island is 32’ away from the south facing glazing.
Ice House Lofts initially showed what was possible in urban living in Tucson and this loft moves the dial a step further with a new and sophisticated direction to living.
