Designed by Uffizi Arquitetura, IF House is a countryside residence that prioritises simplicity, environmental responsiveness, and a close relationship with the surrounding landscape. Set on a 1,250 m² site, the 540 m² home is organised as a lightweight steel structure that maximises openness while minimising structural intervention. Rather than relying on complex technological solutions, the project uses passive design principles, generous daylight, and carefully framed views to create a comfortable and adaptable home that responds to its natural setting.
Passive design and landscape integration
The house is planned as a linear composition that takes advantage of its orientation to maximise views of the surrounding landscape and the setting sun. Large glazed openings connect interior spaces with the garden while allowing natural daylight to penetrate deep into the home, reducing dependence on artificial lighting during the day.
Pergolas and deep horizontal roof planes provide passive solar control by filtering direct sunlight and creating shaded outdoor living areas. These elements reduce heat gain during warmer periods while maintaining visual openness and strengthening the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The seamless transition between the living areas, garden, and swimming pool encourages natural ventilation and allows outdoor spaces to function as an extension of the home throughout much of the year.
Efficient structure and durable materials
The residence employs a steel structural system that enables long spans and flexible interior layouts with fewer structural elements. This approach creates open, adaptable spaces that can accommodate changing household needs over time while allowing efficient use of materials.
A restrained material palette contributes to the building's longevity through durable finishes that require relatively little maintenance. Large glazed surfaces, steel framing, and robust exterior materials are combined to create a simple architectural language focused on long-term performance rather than decorative complexity.
Designing for comfort and longevity
All private rooms are oriented towards the garden, providing consistent access to daylight, views, and natural ventilation. This arrangement enhances occupant comfort while reducing reliance on mechanical lighting and cooling.
