Situated on an undeveloped plot to the northern end of the “Leien” (Italiëlei, part of the major boulevard in Antwerp), stands a new 8 apartment development. The new building volume respects the predominant profile of the Italiëlei. With 6 storeys to the building line and 2 receding storeys to the rear, the street profile is repaired and returned to a sense of balance. A higher volume at ground level creates a sufficient distance between the public character of the street and the private zone of the dwellings above. At the heart of the development sits the vertical circulation. This opens out to 8 dwellings, each with 3 bedrooms. The sanitary functions are organised vertically through the building volume, located in the middle zone, away from the façade. Each dwelling has a terrace to the front, and glass façade to the front and rear. This ensures, that within this large building depth, a maximum of daylight is provided.
