The main inspiration for this project came from the architecture of the building itself. The apartment is located in Belgrade, in the neighborhood of Profesorska Kolonija. The facade and entrance feature textured glass blocks, characteristic colors, clean lines, and details that strongly reflect the aesthetics of the Yugoslav era. We wanted the interior to continue this atmosphere rather than compete with it.
We preserved the original layout almost entirely, keeping all major walls in place. The only new architectural element is a glass block partition separating the entrance area from the living room, creating a dialogue between the exterior and interior while maintaining light and openness throughout the apartment.
To reinforce the feeling of time and character, we introduced vintage pieces, including an armchair and a sculptural chandelier. One of the key artistic approaches in the project was the use of color blocking. In the living room, a deep red niche visually frames the sofa, making its volume feel lighter while creating a strong focal point. The same technique was used in the home office, where a sky-blue ceiling and wall define a more intimate and creative atmosphere.
The clients are creative people, and it was important for us to reflect their personalities in the interior. The owner’s mosaic artworks became part of the overall composition, while the LEGO collection was transformed into a dedicated installation within a custom-designed red shelving unit in the corridor.
Special attention was given to lighting and different lighting scenarios. Although the clients initially wanted to keep the existing electrical layout, we eventually redesigned the entire lighting plan to better support the functionality and atmosphere of the space. The apartment uses smart track lighting with adjustable brightness and color temperature.
The main value of this project for us lies in combining the architectural context of the building with the personalities, interests, and everyday life of the people living inside it.
