Located on a rural plot of land in S.Miguel, halfway up the hill between the arbutus grove and the beginning of the cork oak grove, we set up the arbutus distillery with the intention of providing agricultural support with an economical and easy-to-implement construction technology.
The white volume with a quadrangular layout is marked by two cutouts in the facades accentuated by an orange color, similar to cork oaks when their cork is removed. These cutouts create two entrance porches to the distillery, a main entrance to the southwest, for public access, and a service entrance to the northeast.
Inside, the space is divided into three distinct areas, a central corridor for the tasting room and customer reception connecting the two porches, a medronho production area (with distillery and fermentation) and a support area with a toilet and a storage/packaging area.
The surroundings complete the view from the porches, with the arbutus grove acting as a backdrop in the service area and the more diverse terrain with native shrubs and trees on the social porch.
