The project aims to investigate the needs of a modern family taking into consideration three main pillars: sustainability, functionality, and flexibility of the space.

The house is placed at the back of the plot with a southeast orientation, in order to take full advantage of natural light and ventilation. Therefore the garden was placed in the front, resulting to its exposure to the public road. The need arose to ensure the privacy of the users.

The perforated concrete wall was used as a ‘green’ barrier between the entrance pathway and the garden, creating a visual experience to the visitor that gradually discovers the outdoor spaces and simultaneously creates a boundary between private and public areas.

The needs of the users change over time, therefore the architectural design corresponds to those changes, by creating an easy-to-use, flexible and timeless space. Wooden sliding doors that can be hidden inside the masonry are used to separate the interior spaces. This aims to achieve flexibility and unification of different spaces between them, based on the needs of each occasion.

The main living room and dining area are located in an open double height space that acts as the core of the house. The common kitchen and living room located in the northern part of the house with openings to the garden, have the ability to be isolated, thus having more privacy. For example, when all doors are closed, an intimate and independent space is created consisting of, the sitting area, the kitchen and the backyard. Resulting in the creation of a small scale living space. When the doors are fully open, the outdoor sitting area, the living area and the kitchen with the backyard are unified creating integration to all the uses of the ground floor.

The openness of the interiors, integrate the gardens and the green spaces around the house, therefore enhancing the simplicity of the volumes and materials. The charm and quality of the interior lies in the details, the lighting, harmony and materials begin to emphasize the interior and accent the exterior architecture.
