The brief was to create a home in which to entertain regularly; deliver texture and practicality, referencing the clients’ love of travel, marrying the characteristics of European historic houses with relaxed coastal comfort.
Description of intent
The big idea was to create a sophisticated and unconventional beach house, whilst giving it a relaxed, barefoot elegance. Throughout the house is a sense of free-flowing space, with many rooms bathed in natural light. We set out to balance these spaces with a rich palette and unexpected, intimate nooks.
We intended to make this beach house as ‘un-beachy’ as possible, whilst reflecting the magnificent coastal location and surrounding parkland. Using a calm palette we addressed the balance of vast space and light, introducing cosy sophistication and purposeful elements of surprise.
