KLOVENIERSBURGWAL

CUBE Architecten as Architects

An existing house in a monumental canal house is renovated and refurnished. In the late eighties, this former shop has already been transformed in a special way to an open and very distinctive loft. The challenge of the design was on one hand to make a very recognizable and functional new addition but on the other hand to show respect for this spatial design and monumental status. The client loves to cook and wanted a unique kitchen whet he could have as much contact as possible with his guests during cooking.

We proposed one new element which integrated kitchen and dining table, and that adapts to the space and routing of the apartment. In addition, the floor continues with a number of different levels into a lounge area with canal view, which makes it possible to sit around the kitchen. Drinking a glass of wine in the evening sun. A new wardrobe emphasizes the connection of the front and rear of the apartment with a special attention for the patio. Cantilever steps made a subtitle additional entrance to the first floor.

The floor is made of several old floorboards, which together have a mostly raw and vibrant appearance. In contrast, the kitchen is entirely in tight Corian, with pitt cooking, sinks and storage fully integrated. The flowing shape of the worktop runs in a floating tabletop by steel cables attached to the ceiling. In one of the six industrial ceiling lights is the extractor processed.

The limited and inconvenient space is transformed into a spacious and luxurious lounge, kitchen and diner area.
