Leichhardt Oaks is an alterations & additions to an cottage in Sydney's inner-west. The project's aim was to transform what was previously an enclosed and lightless home into one of generous, free flowing rooms connected to outdoor garden spaces. Ðhe existing front rooms were retained - renewed and repainted - whilst rear lean to extensions were demolished to make room for a new light-filled extension. This extension contained living and kitchen dining spaces in an open plan delineated by a folded crease in the ceiling. A clerestory window hovers above the dining space, shaded by a 'brise soleil' that diffuses the entering sunlight to create a calm aura in the space.Ú palette of oaks and whites are foregrounded in the kitchen area to amplify the feeling of calmness in the space, and ties in with the living and dining areas as one. The bathroom uses an austere palette of rich greys and black, an enclosed oasis that sits apart from the rest of the house.
