The clients, well traveled and incredibly intellectual, loved their old Queenslander located in Wooloowin, a suburb of Brisbane. The living areas of the house however, were lacking in aesthetic and natural light.
The existing Kitchen, Dining, Bathroom and Deck of the house were strategically removed to make way for a new Living pavilion that elegantly interacts with the new lush garden at the rear of the property. The 3,5m ceiling heights and full width glass take advantage of the south facing orientation toward the garden. The old and new are tied together via a 12m frameless glass roof that provides both visual and structural separation. While being particularly sensitive to refurbishing the existing Queenslander, the laquered mild steel box enclosure containing the internally lined marble bath and shower, is inserted into the existing study to create a new "washroom". The main en-suite bathroom was also remodeled, reflecting the existing structure and incorporating new ideas.
4m long stainless steel island bench with integrated gas cooktop contrasts the marble scullery bench.
Built-in corner sofa and daybed overlook the garden.
Mild steel fireplace enclosure separates the living space from the study nook behind that has full view of the garden.
