Completed in 2026, this 400 m² Chinese restaurant in Dubai was designed by NUTRO Studio as a contemporary interpretation of Chinese cultural traditions. Rather than relying on decorative symbolism, the interior creates a restrained, immersive atmosphere where materiality, light, and spatial rhythm shape the dining experience.
A limited palette of wood, natural red marble, rattan, bamboo, leather, and woven cord defines the space, while a lattice-patterned timber ceiling engraved with Chinese characters unifies the interior. Lighting is treated as a building material, with soft, directional illumination emphasizing stone, fabric, and dining surfaces to create depth and intimacy throughout the restaurant.
The red marble bar forms the project's centerpiece, engraved with a dragon motif, supported by sculptural dragon-shaped stone legs, and crowned by a pagoda-inspired timber structure that suspends glassware above. The sequence continues through a cylindrical marble reception desk, a communal live-edge dining table, private dining niches framed by carved timber screens and bamboo elements, and recurring marble dragon sculptures that reinforce the spatial identity.
"The aesthetic of the East is interpreted here as a contemporary reading of ancient tradition — restrained, dignified, and quietly intriguing," says Danylo Honcharenko, art director and co-founder of NUTRO Studio.
