Completed in 2026, ETHNIC CAVE is a 75 m² two-bedroom apartment in Kyiv designed by NUTRO studio drawn to nature-forward textures and tactile materials. The project extends the studio's "Inhabited Cave" philosophy — home as humanity's first architecture — reinterpreted here with an ethnic, organic accent through wood texture, handcrafted lighting, and a sculpted rock-face detail in the bedroom.
Large-format Energieker Agathòs porcelain stoneware runs across the kitchen backsplash, countertop, cabinet fronts, and bathroom surfaces with minimal visible seams, reading as one continuous mass. A shadow-gap detail replaces the traditional baseboard throughout, making the walls appear to float above the floor. Large "wood slice" panels by Venko extend the natural theme into the living room and bedroom.
A sliding partition in ELIO HOME veneer conceals a home office: open by day, it reads as part of the shared living space; closed in the evening, it becomes a private workroom — effectively adding a room the base layout didn't have.
The apartment's most important space stays out of frame: a utility room housing a full Miele ecosystem and a hybrid inverter with a 20 kWh battery, giving residents energy independence from the city's power outages. As NUTRO's architects put it, this is what a cave looks like in wartime Kyiv — a home that shelters both emotionally and literally.
