The client—a Saudi Arabian prince—commissioned YODEZEEN to design a contemporary mosque as part of a larger 12,000 m² private complex in Riyadh. The brief called for a design that respects the sacred spatial principles of Islamic architecture while reflecting YODEZEEN’s modern, sculptural aesthetic.
Aligning architectural geometry with strict religious orientations without compromising aesthetic purity required exceptional precision. Material selection also posed complexity: modern finishes had to meet Islamic spiritual guidelines, such as using natural wool carpets and specific stone typologies. Additionally, sustainable solutions were tailored to local climate and religious rituals—like water-saving systems in the ablution area—balancing spiritual reverence with environmental responsibility.
The planning of the mosque is based on a clear functional separation, consisting of two standalone volumes: the ablution pavilion and the main prayer hall. Accessibility demanded thoughtful planning to ensure inclusive worship without disrupting spatial hierarchy.
The mosque itself follows a rectangular floor plan, maintaining the clarity and purity of traditional spatial logic. However, it gains interior dynamism through refined architectural details—sculptural ceiling elements, a delicately carved niche for the mihrab, and integrated shelving for the Quran.
